Speaker Test Online

To test your speakers, play a sound in the left speaker, then the right, and check each comes from the correct side. Then play the bass tones and the sweep to hear how low and high they go. It works for laptop, phone, PC and Bluetooth speakers and needs no download.

Before you start

Turn your volume down before you start. Stop if anything is uncomfortable. Long exposure to loud or high-pitched sound can damage hearing.

These tests need JavaScript to make sound. The explanations below work without it.

Sound starts only when you press a button, at a low level with a soft fade-in. The level is capped in the code. Esc or the space bar stops it. On iPhone, turn off silent mode or web sound may stay muted. This is not a medical hearing test.

Left / right test

Bass test

Frequency sweep 20 Hz – 20 kHz

Phone and laptop speakers

Phones and laptops often have two small speakers. Many phones only play stereo when turned sideways, and a phone may use the earpiece as one of the two speakers. If the left/right test plays from the same place, the device may simply be mono.

If no sound comes out, check that the volume is up, that silent mode is off, and that the sound is not going to Bluetooth headphones in another room.

Frequently asked questions

How do I test my speakers?

Turn the volume down, press L and R in the left/right test and check each sound comes from the matching speaker. Then play the bass tones and the frequency sweep. Rattles or crackles at some tones point to a loose part or damage.

Why does my laptop have no bass?

Laptop speakers are very small and cannot move enough air to play deep bass. It is normal that the lowest tones on the bass test are silent on a laptop. Use headphones or an external speaker for bass.

How do I test iPhone speakers?

Open this page in Safari, turn off silent mode, set the volume low and run the left/right test with the phone held sideways. One sound should come from each end of the phone.

Why does one speaker sound quieter?

Dust in the grille, a balance setting, or where you sit can make one side quieter. Sit in the middle, check the balance in your sound settings and clean the grille gently.

Can I test a mic and speakers at the same time?

This page tests output only and never uses your microphone. For the microphone, use a separate mic test such as testthemic.app, then come back here for the speakers. Running both at once can cause feedback.
