About headphonetest.app

What this site is

headphonetest.app is a set of free tests for headphones, earbuds and speakers that run in your browser. It is published by Takreparation Skåne AB in Ängelholm, Sweden.

How the sound is made

Every test sound is generated live by your browser with the Web Audio API: oscillators for pure tones and sweeps, generated pink noise for the channel and phase tests, and gain and panning nodes to place the sound left, right or in a single speaker. No audio files of music or voices are used, and nothing is recorded.

Sound starts only after you press a button, at a low level with a short fade-in to avoid clicks. The level is capped in the code, and Esc, the space bar or the Stop button stops it at once.

What it cannot tell you

The results mix your headphones, your device settings, the volume and your ears. They are a practical check, not a lab measurement and not a medical hearing test.
